  • LAN – Local Area Network: a network of computers that are in the same location i.e. in the same office.
  • WAN – Wide Area Network: similar architecture to a LAN however it spans a larger (wider) area. An example of this would be a large university or school network (possibly with multiple campuses like John Septimus Roe)
  • ADSL – Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line: is a form of “Digital Subscriber Line” technology. (See DSL)
  • DSL – Digital Subscriber Line: is a technology which allows high-speed communication (Internet access) to homes and small businesses.  DSL uses standard telephone lines which are commonly installed in Australian homes.
  • Naked DSL – Naked DSL is also known as ‘standalone or dryloop DSL’.  Naked DSL is a digital subscriber line (DSL) without a PSTN (analogue telephony) service or in other-words without the normal dial tone. The DSL Internet service is provided on the local loop.
